About This Project

The Mangrove Monitoring Platform is an advanced AI + IoT environmental monitoring system designed to protect mangrove and coastal ecosystems through real-time data collection, analysis, and alerting. Built using Next.js, YOLOv8, ESP32 sensor nodes, Flask/FastAPI, and PostgreSQL/MongoDB, this platform delivers a complete, end-to-end solution for automated ecosystem intelligence. The system combines AI-powered computer vision with IoT-based water quality monitoring, enabling accurate detection of environmental threats and degradation. ESP32 hardware modules continuously track pH, salinity, turbidity, gas levels, and water depth, while YOLOv8 identifies mangrove damage, pollution, and human activity from uploaded images. All data streams into a modern Next.js dashboard featuring interactive charts, alert notifications, and geospatial mapping for precise location-based insights. A dedicated Citizen Reporting Module allows users to upload mangrove photos with geotagging, which are validated using a custom AI model and displayed on a real-time map. The platform also includes automated alerts, leaderboards, AI-assisted verification, and seamless integration between IoT data and citizen observations. Designed for hackathons and scalable deployment, this project highlights full expertise in AI integration, IoT hardware development, sensor data analytics, cloud-ready backend systems, and real-world environmental conservation technology. It serves as a powerful, data-driven tool for NGOs, researchers, and coastal authorities to monitor mangrove health and take timely action.
